What is a UTM parameter?
UTM parameters are tags you add to a URL so analytics tools (like Google Analytics) can attribute a visit to a specific source, medium, and campaign. They look like ?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=launch.
Which UTM parameters are required?
utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign are the three you should always set. utm_term and utm_content are optional and used mostly for paid keywords and A/B test variants.
Should I use lowercase?
Yes. UTM values are case-sensitive in most analytics tools, so "Reddit" and "reddit" become two separate sources. Stick to lowercase and a consistent naming convention.
Do UTM links work on Reddit?
Yes, but keep them clean and use them where links are allowed. For outreach, a tracked link in a DM or a welcomed comment lets you measure which subreddits actually convert.
